Professor Al Cairns is Programme Director for MariNH3. He is Director of the Powertrain Research Centre at University of Nottingham, with with over 20 years’ experience in light and heavy-duty engines and fuels.
His early career involved 10 years with engineering consultancy Cosworth Technology/MAHLE Powertrain, managing large collaborative R&D programmes. He has since successfully led over 25 EPSRC, Innovate UK, Advanced Propulsion Centre and directly funded projects in his field with global industry partners. He has over 90 related publications, with recent relevant outputs covering jet ignition and dual fuel heavy duty engines.
He has previously received prizes for related research from both the IMechE and SAE International.
